Review Of Get Your Guide-

I use Get Your Guide (click this link to go to my travel apps review page) a lot so I am reviewing them here:
The first thing I want to say is that I also use Trip Adviser a lot and I like them both equally. I will review Trip Advisor in the future. Anyway, on with the review:
Get Your Guide has popped up everywhere in recent years, especially when searching for things to do or tours to book while traveling. I’ve used it on quite a few trips, and after checking it against other booking platforms, I wanted to share my experiences and a closer look at what actually makes Get Your Guide useful if you’re hunting for cool activities around the world, and they really are most everywhere.

What is Get Your Guide, and How Does it Work?

Get Your Guide acts as a marketplace for booking all sorts of activities, from walking tours and museum passes to adventure excursions you wouldn’t find anywhere else. The company started in Berlin back in 2009 and has grown into a global booking platform for experiences in major cities and smaller towns alike. Just search for your destination, set your dates, and browse a massive list of things to do, often with helpful reviews and instant confirmation options.
If you want to secure a spot for popular tours, skip the line museum tickets, or activities that need advance booking (like hot air balloon rides or wine tastings), Get Your Guide makes it pretty convenient. They partner with local tour operators and pass those listings straight to you in a user friendly way. Plus, you’ll usually see reviews, cancellation policies, photos, and exact meeting points all on the same activity page.

What Does it Cost to Use Get Your Guide?

As a traveler, you don’t pay extra just to use Get Your Guide’s services. The prices you see on the site or app are set by the tour operators, and Get Your Guide takes a commission from the providers, not from you. Sometimes, you’ll even stumble upon tours a bit cheaper on other sites, especially if you go directly to the operator, but in most cases, prices are quite similar or the same. I do often go directly to the venue to buy tickets like I did for the Cayman Turtle Center because I knew there was a US $3.00 discount for booking on line directly with them. Get Your Guide and Trip Adviser are my best friends when I am searching for activites and events and want to book something right away before it is fully booked.
One advantage is that Get Your Guide usually offers free cancellation up to 24 hours before your booked activity, which is handy for flexibility. There’s no hidden fee for browsing, signing up, or booking—everything is clearly shown up front. That said, double check each activity listing for what’s included in the price. There will always be several versions of tours (when they are available) with check off lists of what is included and what is not included and the price differences.

Using the App and Website: How Easy Is It?

The Get Your Guide website and app both focus on an easy to use layout. From my experience searching for activities is quicker than some competitor sites. Use Get Your Guide one time and you will always breeze through their very easily navigated site for ever more.
Clean Interface: The search bar is right at the top, activity filters are simple, and it’s clear where to find your booking vouchers.
Instant Booking Options: Many tours offer quick or “mobile friendly” tickets you can show on your phone when you arrive. No printing needed, which is pretty handy.
Mobile App Advantages: In cities or countries where WiFi isn’t always available, you can download your bookings to the app for offline use. I found this really helpful in places with spotty service. One time in NYC, I was a little lost looking for Frick Museum on Madison (while their iconic building was being renovated) so, in combination with Google Maps, I was able to find the museum by following the little arrow and by the time we got to the museum, I had my booking on my phones’ screen.
Comparing with Other Platforms: Compared to Viator or Klook, I find Get Your Guide’s search and filter tools more streamlined. The mobile app’s design is less cluttered, so you aren’t overwhelmed by endless options. I do like Viator but I use them through TripAdvisor and Klook is all right but I am used to using Get Your Guide.
Whether you’re planning in advance on your laptop or standing on the street refreshing the app looking for a last minute museum ticket, Get Your Guide keeps things pretty straight forward.

Main Features and Cool Perks

Here are a few features I’ve found especially useful when booking with Get Your Guide, either as a solo traveler or during group trips:
Multilingual Customer Support: If anything goes wrong, customer service is available in several languages, usually 24/7. If a meeting point changes, their support team will  contact you fast by email, following that up with a call.
Flexible Booking Policies: Free cancellation and easy rescheduling come up a lot. This matters if you’re building an itinerary where the weather could mix things up, such as boat trips or hikes.
Verified Reviews and Photos: Real traveler reviews and pictures give you honest insight into what a tour will actually be like. I’ve often chosen a few of such tours over other tours simply by reading these reviews.
Instant Confirmation: Perfect for those last minute plans. You’ll get a QR code instantly in the app, so tickets or entry passes are always at your fingertips.
All these perks help reduce the stress of booking activities, especially if you’re somewhere new and want to be sure your plans won’t fall through.

Is It Reliable? My Personal Experience and What Other Travelers Say

Each experience on Get Your Guide depends a lot on the local tour operator, since Get Your Guide connects you but doesn’t lead the tours themselves. On all of my bookings, the process was smooth; it’s clear where to go, vouchers are accepted, and getting a refund for a rained out or otherwise weather related tour is quite easy and hassle free. I have never had a problem with Get Your Guide. I see, by reading many of the reviews that people sometimes do have issues but I have NEVER had an issue with Get Your Guide website or bookings. If I ever have an issue., it is with the tour operator. One time, in Quito, Ecuador we showed up for a tour of the Basilica Voto National. We could not find the tour group and saw no signs indicating where they were. Not until I happened to find a text message on my phone indicating where to meet them did I know where to go. That was an issue with the tour operator not clearly indicating where their location was.
Checking online reviews, most travelers feel the same way. People highlight the refund policy, the ease of managing bookings, and the wide array of options. Some complaints I’ve seen, as mentioned above, relate to tours being canceled at short notice or confusion about meeting points, but Get Your Guide customer service usually steps in to check things and help smooth out any issues, or the tour operator may be texting you with more information, as it happened to us in Quito.

Common Questions about Get Your Guide

People often ask a few core questions when comparing Get Your Guide with other booking sites:
Are there extra costs or fees for using Get Your Guide?
No extra costs are added for the customer. You pay what’s listed on the booking page. Just check if things like tickets, lunches, or transport are included when you book. There will be check off lists at the bottom of each booking page marking what is included and what is not included.

How can I change or cancel my booking?
Most activities can be canceled for free up to 24 hours in advance, and some even last minute. You just log in to your account, select your booking, and follow the prompts. If you booked while logged out, use the booking reference number in your confirmation email.

What if an activity is canceled by the operator?
If the local tour provider cancels (maybe due to weather or low attendance), you’ll get a prompt email and usually a fast refund, no hassle.

Can I trust the reviews on Get Your Guide?
Reviews only come from people who have booked, so they’re generally pretty trustworthy. Check if reviews mention the guide’s name or if people are true customers and not bots or employees of each site.

Things to Think About Before Booking Through Get Your Guide

There are a few things to weigh when using a service like Get Your Guide:
Sometimes direct booking with a tour operator can mean a lower price, but that’s not always the case. The trade off often is less flexibility with refunds or less reachable customer support if something goes wrong.
Double check what’s included. Occasionally, tours advertise a super low price but don’t include entry tickets, so you might pay extra at the meeting point.
Meeting points can sometimes be confusing, especially around big train stations or plazas. Always check the location in advance and message the operator if anything isn’t clear, like I learned the hard way in Quito. Check your messages (i guess the tour operator should have your phone number or e-mail.
If your plans are very last minute (booking hours before): the pool of available tours might be smaller as some do sell out swiftly.
These are relatively minor issues. Booking through a big platform means you almost always have backup if plans change or if there’s a miscommunication with a local guide.

Tips for Making the Most of Get Your Guide

Here’s what I’ve found works best for snagging the top activities and enjoying a smooth experience:
Always skim the most recent reviews, since things like meeting points and guides can change from season to season.
Download the app before your trip and keep your tickets stored offline; sometimes, cell reception is iffy at tour starts.
If you have questions, message customer support or the operator directly. They usually respond quickly, especially if it’s urgent.
Pay attention to free cancellation deadlines and set a reminder if you might need to change your plans.

Get Your Guide is a reliable platform for stumbling upon and booking experiences all over the world. I still check Trip Adviser (and book with them) when planning trips, but Get Your Guide holds a top spot in my travel bookmarks for flexibility, it has a very clean layout, and its speedy support when you need it are good, real reasons to use their website.

The following photo was taken inside the Intramuros neighborhood of Manila Philippines and, yes, the guided tour was booked through Get Your Guide.

  1. Great review! I’ve used Get Your Guide a couple of times while traveling in Europe, and overall, I’ve had a pretty solid experience. The platform makes it really easy to find tours that fit your schedule and interests—especially last-minute.
One thing I appreciate is the transparency with reviews and the clear cancellation policies. That gave me a lot more confidence when booking with local guides I didn’t know much about.
In my opinion, it’s a fantastic option for casual travelers or anyone looking to add some structure to their trip without over-planning. That said, I do think it’s important to cross-check a few listings with other platforms just to make sure you’re getting the best value.
Thanks for the detailed breakdown—definitely aligns with what I’ve experienced so far!

  2. This was such a thorough and useful review—I really like how you walked through not only the perks of GetYourGuide but also the real-world situations where the app and customer service made a difference. The details about offline access, instant QR confirmations, and multilingual support are exactly the kinds of things travelers worry about, so it’s great to see them explained so clearly. I also appreciate your honesty about tour operator issues versus platform issues—it helps set realistic expectations.

Do you find yourself booking more last-minute experiences with the app, or do you still prefer planning tours in advance when possible?

    • Hello, thank you for the great comment. I was very reassuring. I definitely prefer to book all activities one or two months in advance and I almost always do but for my next trip in just 3 weeks, I have booked NOTHING. I am always finding things I have to do in building my website that I have not gotten around to booking anything. This is the first time this has happened. Since we are here with Get Your Guide, I will immediately go there after this response and book what I have too! Thank you for the comment. MAC.
